Re: Energy Bills up again

People's outside oil tanks in rural areas are being raided by thieves syphoning off the oil and re-selling it because it has become so valuable. They wait until the fuel lorry has been to fill up the tank. I hope the price will come down because it's going to be a difficult winter for many, possibly dangerous for the elderly. Although some houses and offices/ shops are too hot.
I read that it is speculation on the markets and OPEC, so some are making money

I think you will have a long wait for it to come down. The price of a barrel of oil may drop but I bet the consumer price doesn't.
It's funny that after a budget prices go up at the shops, pumps etc. at midnight despite it being old stock but any pension increases etc. take about a year.

While looking for something else entirely, I came across this:
How plastic bags could solve fuel crisis - News
Could this be the answer? Or will vested interests blow it out of the water?

Re: Energy Bills up again

I'm kind of in shock!
British gas increase their gas prices 35% , electricity by 9%

BBC NEWS | Business | Record rise for British Gas bills

How many times can they put up the price! before we, the public, do something!
Stop wasting money on the sinkhole Olympics and invest in alternative energy.

Grrr so angry....

Re: Energy Bills up again

If you can, cap your energy supply price with a cheaper supplier straight away. After EDF's 22% rise last week, expect all the energy companies to go up a similar amount. Predictions are that they'll go up the same amount/more by the end of the year...maybe as early as Oct/Nov.

Try a site like uswitch to find the cheapest 'capped' price. I think eon are still doing a cap until Oct 09, but these capped price services are expected to end any minute

http://www.eonenergy.com/At-Home/Pro...n.htm?WT.svl=4

Your fuel price will probably go up about 10%+ straight away, but you won't get hit by the almost inevitable price rises that are coming from all the energy companies

Re: Energy Bills up again

British Gas announced today that we will have both increases as from today , then we are expected more price rises by October, if you do change companys you will find that they too will increase their prices much the same, like stuart said really only good to move supplier if they cap the prices, it is a lot of paperwork and telephone calls for us to move suppliers as ive done in the past, I bet by winter they will all charge much the same for gas and electricity. I do think it time the goverment stepped in to help poorer , elderly, disabled, etc . British gas spokesman said tonight on ITV news that they will help people insulate their homes, well I bet after last years prices most people have done insulation etc, the only thing they can do now is drop the prices before people will die of hypothermia this winter instead of increacing it . shei.

Re: Energy Bills up again

So that is hypothermia for the old(ish) and those on fixed incomes. Last Winter was a walk in the morning and another in the afternoon to keep going (and nowt wrong with that if you can do it). As you get colder and colder, the sound of the jets "practising" gets more and more galling. Mind you, they probably run on the thoughts of Angels.

Re: Energy Bills up again

After my last winter quarter bill of nearly £400 I plan on having one night storage heater on in my living room/dining room (20'x9') and the one in my bathroom on for an hour or two a night. I plan on wearing a lot of thick jumpers and thermal longjohns under my trousers. I cant move about a lot so it will be dressinggown over that lot in the evenings and a blanket over my feet. Either that or since I now have wireless broadband I will spend my time in bed.. where I will have the duvet plus the spare duvet over me.

jaki...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Shame we cant store the heat we have been having.. isnt it.
