| | | Energy Saving Day - did you know about it? February 28 was "Energy Saving Day". People were encouraged to switch off unnecessary appliances over a period of 24 hours and the national grid would monitor consumption and report on the effect.
The day was backed by a number of environmental organisations including Greenpeace, Christian Aid and the RSPB, as well as most major energy companies.
In the event, the day had virtually know impact on electricity usage and one of the reasons for this is thought to be lack of publicity.
Did you know it was happening?

organisations involved.

| | | Re: Energy Saving Day - did you know about it? Sounded like a good idea, shame it was not made that public. It would have been a good experiment. Our house included probably wouldn't have made much difference as we turn stuff off all the time. In fact I am renowned for turning the light off when someone is still in a room. |

I had heard about it but like most responders I'm a bit fanatical about switching things off anyway, at home and at work, so can't claim to have participated in any meaningful way.

| | | Re: Energy Saving Day - did you know about it? Only heard about it on the day itself, but i never leave anything on needlessly anyway. From reading the comments on the BBC's "Have your say" page it would seem that there are sadly still a very large number of people who believe that man made climate change isn't happening, that it's all a con so that the government can increase taxes (!), and that global warming is a natural phenomenon caused by the sun, that has been going on for billions of years ! Maybe there should be a campaign to convince people that, if nothing else, saving energy will save them money. |

| | | Re: Energy Saving Day - did you know about it? I read about it on the BBC website earlier in the month, and informed friends and people at work of the forthcoming date and what was required. It appears that most either forgot, or just plain ignored the request.
I always shut down, or turn off standby switches on equipment that is not in use, so my contribution was negligible come the day. I agree that it should have been pushed more by the media.
