| | | Identify larvae Hello,
Could someone please tell me what these things are?
All the photos were taken after I sprayed the web-like stuff with Raid (I initially thought it was a spiders nest until they started crawling out!).
The black bits are where I tried burning the nest so ignore that (it didn't work )
This here is where the biggest chunk of nest was. It was practically glued to the wall and took some effort to remove it.
Are they actually eating the wood here or what?
Help! Thanks |

| | | Re: Identify larvae These are caterpillars of Aphomia sociella, sometimes called the Bee moth. They have come from an old bee or wasp nest nearby and are full grown, and would pupate in these tough silk cocoons. Burning the cocoons in a wooden house seems a bit dangerous to me! They are harmness, though scrape the wood slightly where they pupate. |

| | | Re: Identify larvae Thank you!
This makes sense as I actually have bees underneath a section of the floor.
Haha...I burnt the cocoon outside, it was more out of curiosity than me trying to kill them
Will they cause any significant damage? I've removed all visible ones but there could be some underneath the floor. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
