| | | What are these? A newbie to the moths /butterflies and caterpillar scene so bear with me .. walking the dog i stumbled upon this little fella...
it was dead (obviously) but when i turned it over i see these little things underneath.What are they please?
Im sure the caterpillar was / is a peacock.. but again not sure...
Help greatly appreciated..

| | | Re: What are these? Its a Peacock butterfly larva. These are its four middle prolegs, which are usually pale. Most butterfly and moth larvae have three pairs of jointed "proper" legs at the front, four pairs of prolegs (improper legs?) towards the rear, and one pair of prolegs at the end. Maybe the old trainspotters would call it a 3-4-1? Sawfly larvae usually have more prolegs than this. |
