Probably a Yellowtail moth caterpillar. I have got a bit rusty as we don`t get Yellowtail moths this far North.
They are the ones that disguise themselves as a moulted woodpidgeon, white, under feather.

Hi Dave

I did look at the Yellow-tail, but didn't think the red markings were right.

Like your description of the moth!
