| | | Caterpillar on Clematis This bright green caterpillar, about 5cm/2" long, and his 2 friends, are eating my clematis. I would like to know if it is something rare and lovely in the making, or just common and boring because I'm sorry to say they really are going to have to leave or die if not identified as something special.
The 2 others, slightly smaller, have a more pronounced pale stripe down their sides. |

| | | Re: Caterpillar on Clematis Thank you GaryH. A rather lovely name, and a pretty caterpillar for what appears to be a quite dull moth.
I could only find very minimal info with photo and can only assume it is common.
As I am new and having a little trouble navigating around WAB, could some clever person please find out if there is a wild plant/tree they like to eat, so that I can move them off my poor clematis? Don't really want to kill them.
Thank you |

| | | Re: Caterpillar on Clematis I'm not at all sure, but the first could be Black Rustic.
Apparently they eat various low-growing plants including some grasses and clovers, so if you release them in a grassy area (perhaps near a hedge to give them some more options) hopefully they might find something that they like

| | | Re: Caterpillar on Clematis Definitely not twin spotted quaker then.
I have "released" them in grass near trees, each with a bit of clematis attached as a snack for their journey, and wished them good luck
Probably inside a birdy's tum by now. RIP, and I still don't know what they were | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
