Hello,
Found struggling in my pond on 4th May. Size ~10mm. I fished it out as it looked like it was drowning.

Hi
I believe this is from the family Hydrophilidae - unfortunately both the adult and larval forms are aquatic

Thanks Pete, I think you are right. Last time I found a larva struggling in the pond I put it back but it made it's way to the edge and I guess got out, it was a Staphylinid!
This time I waited to see how it fared, it struggled then floated upside down so it didn't look happy. I put it not very far from the pond so it could have made it's way back if it wanted I think!

We've all been there and I'm sure I'd have taken him out and on to dry land too!
