| | | unknown eggs in pond Hi, i have just joined today as i was trying to find out about some eggs we found in our little nature pond. Hopefully someone will be able to tell me what they are. .. since the nice weather has arrived we have had a lot of activity in our ponds ..mainly the small nature pond....as there are no greedy koi in that one LOL.. frogs, newts, snails.. even small leach type things..( yuck ) The frogs have laid eggs which i recognise from when i was a nipper.. but there are larger eggs in there also. There jelly like..similer to the frog spawn..but slightly larger.. and instead of the little black dot inside.. theres a larger white milky dot. They are not really laid in bulk.. a few are clustered together but most are seperate.. they are beneath the water on the rocks under the rocks .. dead leaves and even on the blanket weed attached to the sides.. i have taken a few pics but have not worked it out how to get them on here as yet... i have been trying and have failed |

| | | Re: unknown eggs in pond These sound like snail eggs are they a jelly blob with lots of small eggs within them? or alternatively they could be newt eggs although newts almost always fold eggs up inside the leaves of pond plants, overhanging plants or dead leaves or sometimes grasses. So the location isnt quite right/normal for newts. They are a small jelly blob with a large white centre (or dark depending on age/species) within them. |

| | | Re: unknown eggs in pond Hard to say from these, if you could get some sharper ones though.... They dont look like snail eggs. Could they be mould or are they definitely eggs? |

| | | Re: unknown eggs in pond Looks like a mouldly pellet/seed of some kind. You dont have bird food around the pond? or birds roosting over it? Not sure its an egg, if you look closely at the last photo is has a hairy shaggy border to it not a smooth one like you would expect with an egg. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
