mystery grubs/larvae

unidentified grubs

hello, im wayne and have joined the forum to ask if anyone can tell me what these grubs are if indeed they are grubs.
these have been popping up in "nests" for a few weeks now,they are in their hundreds along a short path through some woods, they appear as a disturbance in the earth,the earth is raised, under the raised earth is many hundreds of these grubs,they are approx 20-25 mm long.
the woods are in very bad shape with many fallen trees and lots of the sycamore trees have been eaten/rotted away from the inside out if thats any help.
