| | | Can anybody tell me what this is ? Hi my daughter found this caterpillar a couple of days ago . We put it in a tub with lots of airholes and since this morning there is a yellow spongy substance and what looks like maggots or larvae moving through it
Does this mean its going to start a cocoon ?
Thanks |

It sounds to me that your caterpillar has been parasitised. This means that something has laid its' eggs inside the caterpillar and the larvae will feed on the caterpillar.
I might be wrong but someone should be along shortly with a more positive answer. |

| | | Re: Can anybody tell me what this is ? It is indeed a Large White butterfly larva that has been parasitised by a Chalcid wasp.

| | | Re: Can anybody tell me what this is ? This is from a Braconid wasp, chalcids tend to be parasites of pupa.
Check Cotesia most likely C.glomerata. |
