| | | Re: help .... what is this!? I think you are correct in your ID : Case-bearing Clothes Moth Tinea pellionella.- Larva - I would look carefully around and see if you have any more of them. You may need to eradicate them if you do. There is a plethora of literature on the net to help you.
best of luck

I would assume so Storm, they like to munch on natural fibres, you could maybe get a lead to where the rest (if any) are from the colour and type of fibre, detritus, the captive one is wearing. The larva eat cotton, wood, wool, etc. You said you found your prisoner in your bathroom - maybe towels, flannels, that sort of thing. Don't panic they can be gotten rid of, but it is hand work as most insecticides have no real effect on them. Just go through your bathroom with 'a fine tooth comb' and you should be ok. Check each room one by one.
I know how annoying and irritating these little buggers can be, one of my flats, when I was abroad had the damned things before I moved in. Hours of searching. It did mean I found a load of coins and even the equivalent of a £50 note tho'. Bright side o' life!

| | | Re: help .... what is this!? sounds like great fun. NOT! we have had the bath panel off and there didnt seem to be any signs of any more. only lots of dead beetles. it seems to be covered in little brown and red things and as my bath towels and flannes are beige im certain there not nestin in them. is it possible it has crawled from another room into the bathroom?? just out of curiosity have you read my other thread? is there likely to be another species that will come along behind this case bearing moth. if that makes sense. thank you for your advice so far its nice to know that im not alone on this and that there are people that know about these things | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
