| | | Another Caterpillar ID please Went to collect some conkers at a local park today. Whilst looking in the long grass for fallen ones, our son suddenly shouted that he'd found a really lovely caterpillar. It was pretty distinctive, although I've never seen one before.
It was a vivid almost lime green in the body, and covered with lighter green/yellow hair. When it curled the colour between its segments was black. Along its back it had some thicker clumps of hair, but the most striking feature was its tail - a tuft of bright red. As there were so many little feet rushing about looking for conkers, I reached a lower branch of the horse chestnut tree and put it up there out of harms way. It was very lively, and soon scuttled away. I'm kicking myself now as I had picked up my camera, but decided not to take it with me
What was it please? |

| | | Re: Another Caterpillar ID please Thank you. Just had a look at them.
Always seems strange to me that such vibrantly coloured caterpillars turn into such plain moths! I know its camoflague for them, but still seems odd.
Then you have the dull, drab elephant hawk caterpillar, that transforms into such a beautifully coloured moth!
Thanks again | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
