Hi...first post here, though I've lurked for a little while  I'm hoping that someone can help me as to what this vibrant little chap is; spotted in on a Willow tree in Cambridgeshire, if that helps.

The catterpillar is a Grey Dagger can be found July to September as larva, feeding on Birch, Sallow, Oak, Lime,as well as Garden Rose, and many other trees and shrubs. |

Hi and welcome to the site.
This is a Grey Dagger caterpillar - Acronicta psi, it's certainly more colourful than the adult moth!

Thanks all, most appreciated. I had never seen one like it before and was having trouble identifying it via lurking! I should imagine that I'll most likely prove a further nuisance asking for IDs on here in future |
