on holiday in france i came across these guys....any i.d. help would be appreciated....thanks in advance...

...and these rather fancy looking (shield?) bugs were everywhere... |

| | | Re: caterpillars and a shield bug The first is a relative of the Emperor, the Great Peacock Moth, Europe's largest species!
The second looks like a Glanville Fritillary, although there may well be similar European species. The third is a Garden Tiger.
The shield bug may be Graphosoma italicum, they do look quite fancy!

sorry its taken a while to respond...computer problems...apologies...
i wasnt purposefully looking for the greater peacock...we just happened across it whilst collecting blackberriesone afternoon...
as for the glanville fritillary caterpillar...i think you are correct, as i managed to capture somebutteflies as well...and im sure this is a glanville fritillary...
...and this i believe to be a queen of spain fritillary...
and two i couldnt i.d.....couldnt find a blue butterfly that was this blue underneath??... |
