| | | Identify Caterpillars - please help! Hi all!
I've just moved house, and about a month ago I noticed some caterpillars on one of the younger trees I have in the garden. After a couple of weeks they all vanished, and I thought nothing more of it.
However, when I came out to the garden again, not only was the same tree totally covered with the same little green caterpillars, but two new types had joined.
It's only this one tree that has been impacted, but as of now it has about 10-20 leaves left on it, and about 200 caterpillars.
So 2 questions. 1: what are they - I've never really looked into anything like this but its fascinating now I have things living in my new garden (I didn't have a garden at my last place!) and 2: Do I need to plant specific things to help the wildlife?
Any help appreciated - I am totally new to all of this, and whilst most people will know what they are I don't and really want to start learning!

| | | Re: Identify Caterpillars - please help! Your first looks like some kind of sawfly larva- the way the rear end is raised is quite obvious...birch sawfly??? They decimate leaves down to the skeletons in moments...
The second is most definately Grey Dagger Moth larvae, gorgeous cats and lovely moths..not seen them around me for ages...lucky you! |
