| | | Help identifying small Hairy Maggot/Larvae thing I found in my flat !! Hi,
I am hoping that someone can help me identify this insect. I've tried looking through various websites and guides without success.
It's approx 0.5 cm in size light body with black hairs and I have only found a couple over the last month but would like to know what they are and if applicable what action to take to prevent them appearing.
Hopefully someone can me!
Thanks,
Willie

It is approx 0.5cm. Tapered cylindrical body which is white with black rings around the body (approx 11 on a 0.5cm example which I picked up earlier). Black hairs around the body, short hairs on head. The head itself is a darker shade i.e. different from the body. Similar in appearance to a maggot or some kind of larve but slightly different colour and hairy.
I have a good picture of one but wasn't sure how to post it, perhaps I can email it to you?
Thanks very much.
Willie

| | | Re: Help identifying small Hairy Maggot/Larvae thing I found in my flat !! Guys,
I think your right. It's summer here and I suspect that they have found a few crumbs somewhere and a few have come out. I have quite an old flat and there are plenty of places to go (between boards etc).
I dont think it's the end of the world but I'm going to give the flat a deep clean (it's not dirty or anything).
What do you think the risk factor or annoyance / pest factor is here?
I'm thinking pretty low on both counts. What do you think? I think I read they will probably dissappear when the winter comes and can fly into the house.
Thanks,

| | | Re: Help identifying small Hairy Maggot/Larvae thing I found in my flat !! I wouldn't worry too much. I occassionally find them in my house, even though the carpets are quite new. They obviously do some damage, but one or two can't amount to much.
See it as a wildlife spotting opportunity. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
