Taken last week at Stoke Camp when looking or Chalkhill Blues. Cannot match up in the usual references.
Any ideas

It looks like a Sawfly larva to me ( though his position is precluding much of a look at the differenciating factors between them) - but no idea which species of.

Take care, Jason  | Its position is one of the differenciating factors  , sawfly larvae often rest like this caterpillars less so. You can see by the heavily segmented body, which shows lots of little ridges (wrinkles) caterpillars are smooth.
Im guessing this was on cocks-foot? The two species which come to mind which feed on cocks foot are Tenthredopsis nassata and Selandria serva . Its not Selandria serva as I know the larvae and its not that. Ive yet to see Tenthredopsis nassata larvae so it could be that. This larvae may not even be linked with this grass but it gives you something to go on. |
