Orange and black tufted caterpillar
Stockgrove Country Park, Beds. On fence beneath row of broadleaf trees separating coniferous wood from meadows.

Help with identification appreciated:

It looks a bit like a Nut-tree Tussock (Colocasia coryli) but my caterpillar knowledge and reference material are a bit limited so this is just a suggestion.

Thanks Geoff.

From what I can see by Googling the web, Colocasia coryli is quite a variable caterpillar - particularly in colouring. However I did find similarly marked images and the tufts are pretty much spot-on, so I think you could well be right.

Yes it appears to be a variable species but, according to my book, those forward pointing tufts of hair are distinctive.
