| | Yellow larva with black marks - ID please! These little guys are all over a hydrangea in my garden and have eaten it to tatters. I can't seem to find them in any caterpillar guides (I hope they are caterpillars and I'm not just stupid) and being the geek I am would love to know what they are? I'm not fussed about the hydrangea - they're welcome to it.
I'm sorry the picture is so bad, I'm saving up for a macro lens!

| | | Re: Yellow larva with black marks - ID please! I'm pretty sure it's a sawfly larva but I don't know which one.
Hopefully someone might come along soon and put a name to it.

| | | Re: Yellow larva with black marks - ID please! I was wondering if the affected plant might not be a Hydrangea, but a Viburnum, in which case it is most likely the larva of the Viburnum Leaf Beetle. Certainly I can think of nothing which reduces leaves to that state and looks like the picture. I'm not aware of any serious nibblers of Hydrangea's in Britain. |

| | | Re: Yellow larva with black marks - ID please! You're actually right poschiavanus, it's definitely a Viburnum. And yep, those are the critters!
Thank you both for your help! To be honest, I'm just going to leave them to it. I'm trying to find the 4 that were on the leaf I photographed though, I left it in the house by accident yeserday and they've all disappeared...
Thanks again! I'm gonna start a new thread with something my boyfriend keeps finding. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
