Ugly grub

6mm diameter 4cm long plain brown or dirty white colour

transparent, can see the insides

has no 'legs' moves around by contraction like an earthworm

has a head end with mouth parts

other end looks like a ring of little spikey bits

possibly aquatic but maybe not.

Hi Wig,
Almost certainly a "leatherjacket", the larva of a cranefly (Tipulidae). The largest species is semiaquatic, but most live in soil, eating roots.

I thought "leatherjacket" on my way to work this morning.

Looking at the online pics of these it was definately one of those.........

You'll never guess where I found it........

In my ground floor toilet bowl I think it must have made it's way in from the sewer.

I released it this morning into next doors garden
