More caterpillars
A 40 foot stretch of hedgerow (hawthorn or blackthorn I think) on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border is completely covered in a silky blanket. Closer examination reveals swarms of small stripy caterpillars. All other stretches of hedgerow are covered in leaves but this one has been stripped bare.
What are they?

The tents are made by Ermine Moth - Yponomeuta species Orchard ermine I think. Could be Spindle Ermine if the hedge is spindle.

I have managed to get a better shot of the caterpillars - I think you are probably right - they are Orchard Ermine moth caterpillars.

Yes they are early then as more usually July flying
