I have found what I assume to be a wasp nest in my shed.....(it looks like one of the pictures in your Gallery)......the cocoon looks sort of like a tiny chinese lantern......Looking through a whole in the bottom it looks as though there are white egggs of some sort inside......how do I know for definate this is a wasp nest and should I remove it?

Not been in the shed for a bit eh?  . Depends on size 
From your description the nest is/was well established. Its early for the queens to have a big colony so depending on size if there are wasps flying in and out get a professional or there are some spray nest killers now. If the nest is old it can be removed by you without any angry wasps. The white is probably mould as the nest is made of chewed wood.
