Cocoon not hanging up

Hi everyone. For my 9 year old son's school project we found a green caterpillar on some lettuce. We made a habitat for it, it ate happily & so on and turned into a cocoon about 9 days later. The problem is the cocoon is not hanging up. Although I had branches in the indoor habitat for it, it's just lying on the base of the habitat. Should I just leave it? I've seen photos & videos of them hanging up, so the butterfly can emerge properly..
Also should I make the habitat suitable in any other ways, like keeping it warm or moist? It's a container in a quiet place in an upstairs bedroom. Thanks for all advice, we are beginners at this, but feel responsible for the little fellow & want to help it.

Hi, do you know what the species is? It may be a type of moth which usually pupate on the ground anyway. I would make sure the habitat is dry and there's no condensation in there. All being well, it shouldn't be long before it hatches out. Good luck!
