Glanville Fritillary observations

Hello,

Near Sandown I just found this caterpillar of Glanville Fritillary exploring among its food plant Ribwort Plantain (although here it has climbed a grass).



Precisely this time last year I found my first adult GVs already on the wing at Whitecliff Bay, and wonder if this is a sign that things are moving slowly this year. (Cycling to school with my daughter this morning - maybe it's just my age - but it still feels bloomin' freezin!)

One encouraging sign, though, I haven't seen the GV recorded much further east on the IoW than Ventnor so maybe it is expanding its range.

Mabye it was just an odd one out that has decided to wait! Although it is still feezing out there as you say!
