The ' webbing' could easily be a root system or other.

Nope to both, as simple as that. The orange mass is sat on top of the leaf, if you enlarge the pic and look at the top area you will see that. You might also see a similarity to the orange webbing (just visible on top) to that on the Ero egg sac. |

It weighs 1.7KG! That's close on 3 and 3/4 lbs. Surprisingly though the weight goes down through the arm, once you get used to it it's not too difficult. Try that on closest focus at 2:1!
