| | | Harlequin pupa - interesting colour change I thought some of you might be interested to see the extreme colour change that a Harlequin pupa goes through. These two photos of the same pupa were taken less than a day apart. The earliest is the bright orange and white pic.
This colour change was of course correctly suggested by charlieb in an earlier forum thread  .

This site ( Coleoptera - photo gallery beetles - Fotogalerie Kfer) has a lot of photos of beetles in general - if you select a family, scroll down the list you'll see the species names with little icons next to them (mating, male, female), the one that looks like a little bird is the pupal indicator

The ones I kept in the summer darkened a lot prior to the ladybird emerging.
