Hello all.
I was out in the peak district at the weekend (sadly without a camera) and saw quite a few black furry/spiky caterpillars. They were walking (!) along the sheep trails between the heather and bracken.
Does anyone know what they could be? They seemed to be pretty common. We spoke to a couple who said they had counted over a hundred on one walk earlier in the summer. |

thats the one! I had looked at so many googled images of black furry catterpillars last night that forgotten what it was in the first place! |

Yes, there are lots of Fox moth wandering about, especially near heath or moorland at the moment ... all looking for hibernating/pupating spots |
