Well it's definitely got warning colouration so don't try and eat it!

Seriously, I have handled these and the closedly related sycamore moth caterpillar without any ill effects. However anyone with sensitive skin would be well advised to treat with a degree of caution.

Agree with ID: Dark Dagger Acronicta tridens.
