| | | Apantales glomeratus??? Hey,
We have collected a Large White caterpillar with the intention of watching its life cycle etc.....however, last night 7 small larvae popped out of the caterpillar and made a cocoon next to it.....I am assuming this is the work of the parasitic wasp Apantales glomeratus???
My question(s) really is...does anyone know how long they will stay in this cocoon state??
Also, I notice the Caterpillar was still moving this morning. The top half seems to be moving anyway but not the bottom half - I thought it was strange that it would survive from this?? I am not sure if the bottom half is stuck in the cocoon like silk or its been paralysed by the Larvae eating their way out??

Amazing that they are keeping Bob ( I know, you should never name your subjects haha) alive for their own protection.....The insect world is a pretty brutla place to live....who needs Science Fiction
