What is it ! ! ! ! ! Please help

Ok im baffled. I found a caterpillar (i think) in my room yesterday, infact it was crawling on my foot which freaked me but hey.
i dont know what it is.

It's about half an inch long very thin, smooth and medium brown in colour (one constant colour, no spots etc). From what i've read on the internet i think it's a "looper" it has a few legs at the front and four rounded stubby bits at the back (sorry for the poor descriptive powers). it doesn't have any legs on its middle section and it has no spines etc. When i put my finger in front of the creature, it reared up almost like a snake.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what it is as it is bugging me (no pun intended).
