| | | Stonefly larva or new adult?
Having looked at various web sites I believe this is a stonefly larva.
But none of the pictures I've seen have wings, as this one does, and the pictures of adults have much longer wings.
So, is it a stonefly? Can the actual species be identified?
Is it really a larva or might it have just turned into an adult?
Does it's presence in the river say anything about the quality of the water? (I'm sure the Devon has good water, but might this have been there even if it didn't?)
(River Devon in Clackmannanshire, 22 March 2008)
Thanks! |

| | | Re: Stonefly larva or new adult? Certainly an adult stonefly. Several species have short-winged males, so presume that is what we have here. can you give an idea of the size? |

But it's too hard to tell with any certainty because ithe finger is further away from the camera lens - obvious because it's out of focus. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
