I think it's possibly an early instar Emperor Moth caterpillar, but I'm really not sure!

I was thinking possibly early instar Emperor for the caterpillar too, they are black with orange markings and then turn green. The size would be right too, but the timing a little early maybe? (not impossible though).

thank you both,this is doing my head in been looking all day. it could well be in another shot i have it with a Emperor moth

Maybe a Cream-spot Tiger Arctia villica (with lots of the hairs removed)? Have a look at the picture on UKMoths.
