This caterpillar is approx 10mm long, and was found in a silk wrap inside a leaf that had been rolled and sealed, is it butterfly or moth ?
can anyone enlighten me on it?

There is a certain very interesting thread ( ) about a leaf miner on Viburnum and the larva on there, which looks very much like yours. H Dogg has it down as one of the Tortrix Sp, maybe Pandemis heparana, Pandemis cerasana or Cacoecimorpha pronubana. So I think this is where you should be looking to too.
I noticed mine on 09-04-2009 and am still waiting for it to pupate - then hopefully I can see what does emerge. |

| | | Re: Caterpillar for ID please Had a read up on Tortricidae and green Tortricid larvae known as leaf rollers that have a silk lifeline if disturbed, the most common moth from that family is Tortrix viridana which is a small green moth, and could be a good possibility,
I have collected 3 leaves from a bush in the garden and put them in a collcting dish with breather holes in and put it in the shed,
Will check regularly to see what occurs,
