Unidentified Soil Larvae
Can someone please help me to identify these larvae? Found very near soil surface, but under a 5/6 inch bark mulch in groups of 20/30. Very soft bodied, and paler than the photo shows when first found (creamy with black/dark brown head). Size shown on photo in cm. Many Thanks

I think they are leatherjackets - crane fly / daddy-long-legs larvae.

No Definitely not leatherjackets, these are much smaller very soft bodied and have a very distinctive black head.

I can see little tubercles sticking out the back end so maybe bibionid larvae (e.g. Bibio species), though I thought they also had tiny tubercles along the sides and I can't see those
