| | | Trying to ID this large, round cocoon/chrysalis I've just been into our garden shed to find something, and found a large-ish, round cocoon attached to the shed's ceiling. Someone suggested it might be from an Elephant Hawk Moth but after seeing a picture of their cocoons I'm not so sure. It's about an inch and a half in diameter, looks like whatever was in it has evidently now left, but I'm curious to know what did this! Picture (hopefully!) attached:
Edit: Here's the pic as uploaded to the forum Gallery:
Cheers

I too think you have the beginnings of a Wasps nest tho I don't think they ever return to an old/unfinished site so you should be ok for this year! |

That certainly is the start of a wasp nest, I had one exactly the same a couple of years ago, in the roof of my shed! I didn't notice it until I saw wasps flying in and out above my head. It was quite a bit bigger than that but exactly the same shape and form. Reminded me of an old-fashioned lamp shade LOL. I would remove it if I were you just in case they come back, they don't usually but you never know | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
