unidentified caterpillar

I photographed this caterpillar in Kent near dungeness on 25th May. Can anyone help me ID it. I find the green ones can be a lot more difficult that the others. Cheers

Peppermint - I'm no expert so do please wait to hear from someone who is but....

I understand that caterpillars never have more than 5 leg pairs on the abdominal segments. I can count at least 6 proleg pairs on the green character in your pic, which would would suggest it's a larva from something other than a moth or butterfly.

Could it be a sawfly larva?

hi, thanks for your reply. I was a little puzzled to what it was, as i have a caterpillar book and i could not match it up to any of them in there.
I have had a look on some other internet pages and i think it is Cimbicidae Sawfly larva.

I know nothing about sawfly larva, so thanks for the pointer.
