Unknown larva
Hi

can anyone shed any light on this guy, even a family group will help. I photographed him in southern europe and they were quite common near houses etc , about an inch or so long.

Not much help, but a beetle larva of some sort. Maybe Paul will elucidate more?

No, looks vaguely familiar, and a beetle is the best guess - a predatory one from the look of those jaws but, sorry, no idea. Need to find a Portuguese WA forum! There are quite a few British entomologists/naturalists who visit Portugal so wouldn't give up on it yet!
