Larvae feeding on Lichen
I took the following poor image of an insect larva feeding on lichen growing on the coping stone of a wall. The larva is about 5 mm long, with brushes of hairs growing laterally on each segment. I presume it is lepidopterous, but couldn't match it to pictures of lichen feeding macro moths in Porter (e.g., Footmen & Marbled Beauty).



I think the Lichen is a Verrucaria species, possibly V. nigrescens.

It'd be great to hear any suggestions.

I'm probably very wrong but could it be the Bristly Millipede (Polyxenus lagurus)?

It certainly looks like that, I have never seen one live.

Wow! This does look a good fit.

Hadn't even considered millipedes. I've noted a few postings regarding lichen feeders from different groups on WAB. I'll have to do a bit more research, and then try & get some better photos!
