Nice picture and, yes, fearsome jaws. My inclination would be to a rove beetle (Staphylinidae) but I'm not really into larvae. The size of those mandibles suggest one of the Staphylinus species. |

I dont envy any Coleopterist trying to ID these tiny things, there seems to be hundreds of them  .

Yes looks like Staphylinidae, although could be a Carabid. Have you got a photo of its rear end? The rear is often a good way of IDing larvae especially diptera, but also coleoptera. |

See what Paul thinks, and get a good second opinion. They are a common species that feed on springtails if thats any further info to you. Im confident on the Stenus part though if that helps and pretty sure on the species being tarsalis. | | | |
