Grub/Caterpillar ?

Here is a little Grub/Caterpillar i found this morning, it was just clinging onto life, even though half of its body was missing, i have seen Wasp`s do damage like this before, but i havent seen a Wasp as yet in my part of the woods.

Any idea`s what type of Grub/Caterpillar it is/was ? ...

That's a sorry looking sight. I have no idea what could have done it.
It does look very similar to a Large Yellow Underwing larva - but where it is a bit scrunched up I can't see if there are breaks in the black and pale stripes which it would have.

I`m trying to think what could have half eaten it, when Wasps attack caterpillars they usually chew a portion off, roll it into a ball, then fly back to there nest and return for the rest a few minutes later ...

Bird? shrew? beetle? Definately a caterpillar of some description.

Probably a beetle or earwig, i think a bird or mouse would have eaten the whole thing :0 ...
