| | | Unidentified Hairy Caterpillar I took this photo of a hairy caterpillar in Monkstown Wood, Newtownabbey, N.Ireland in Sept 2007. It was about 2-3 cm in length. ID anyone?

Cheers Jacob | Yes, its not a very selective larvae, it can be found on species such as heather mainly Calluna vulgaris, through to Dock. I have found alot on butterbur this year too. Its not very picky thats for sure. |

| | | Re: Unidentified Hairy Caterpillar Hmmm that is interesting as they seemed to be coming from the Leylandi Hedge my nextdoor neighbour has installed. But the other side of the garden is a field o perhaps they have come from that side and I just caught them all returning!
