String of eggs.

We found these eggs in an opened bag of compost and wondered what they were, so if anyone could enlighten us we would be most grateful.
Each egg is about 5mm long and 4mm wide and are joined together in a line of about 10 inches.

Look rather like snail or perhaps slug eggs to me.

Thanks Wildone for your quick reply.
We've been puzzling over these for a couple of weeks and as we don't have a garden as such, we weren't sure what they were. But now I think about it we do have plenty of slugs and snails.
I had no idea they laid there eggs like this.

I found some exactly like these today too

and I posted here today and have had a similar response. Thing is I'm a landscape gardener, and see slug and snail eggs routinely, but I've never seen them in a string before like this, so I think they must be specific to a type at least?
