Yellow Tail caterpillar?

Would appreciate confirmation of this caterpillar found on a wall at the week end.

Hi Paul, it looks like a Yellow-Tail to me .

Id go with its close relative the Brown-tail Euproctis chrysorrhoea

Yellow tails E.similis tend to have an orange unbroken bar down their back, as well as silver/grey hair, as oppose to the brown tail who's larva has golden hair and a more spotted back like in your photo.

I think that it is a Knot Grass as opposed to the "tail" moths.If you look it has the red & white spiracle line which the brown and yellow tails don't have,also the red dots on the dorsal line don't look right.

I agree with Knot-grass it looks like the one I had in the garden not too long ago which was identified same as.

I wasnt thinking wide enough , i stand corrected knot grass it is neil.

Can anyone recommend a good guide on caterpillars as the books I have are rather limited.

Caterpillars of the british isles by Jim Porter is a good one.
It costs about £45 new but if you look on amazon or ebay you should get it cheaper.
