| | | Butterfly? eggs? Help greatly appreciated please.
Are these butterfly eggs of some description, and if so, any possible ideas what sp?
Do all eggs look the same?
Laid on Red Clover in my wild 6' square meadow patch in the back garden yesterday...
Cheers.
TBR.

I would say they are moth eggs of some kind but which is anyones guess. You could always hatch them out and rear them to see what they are.

| | | Re: Butterfly? eggs? Hi TBR, it looks like they were in the process of hatching, most had changed colour and some look like they had already hatched - did you see what emerged? |

Just had a wee peep at them again this morning. Can't see any evidence of hatching yet, ie little larvae anywhere.
They look pretty intact to me (well, most of them do anyway?!) But I do see what you mean -some are pretty ragged.
I'll just have to hope I've not missed owt!

| | | Re: Butterfly? eggs? Hi, me again! I have just found an old thread I posted a while back. I was lucky enough to spot different stages, but as soon as they hatched the little creatures were off like a shot. I never did see what happened or really know what they turned into. The next morning there was no sign that the eggs were ever there. http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...moth-eggs.html
Keep watch and keep us posted! |

You know, maybe they are Dock Leaf Bug eggs??!!
There are quite a few adults in the "Lower Paddock" (as I call it - its only 6 feet square!).
I'll see what happens... (if anything!)

| | | Re: Butterfly? eggs? I am so glad you managed to see them before they dissapeared. By your photo, they look really similar to the ones I had, though they were on different plants and I have never seen any others before to compare with. In truth I have no idea what they are! I hope some one can put our minds at rest - thanks for putting them on . | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
