| | | Caterpillar ID -help needed!
A fellow member of a photo site took this image of a caterpillar; one of a small group found on a willow tree (St Marys Island, Whitley Bay). So far all attempts to identify it have drawn blanks. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I believe it is a sawfly larva too. Figure of eight is not the same and does not feed on willow  |

yes, and if you look it has at least 5 pairs of prolegs which means it can't be a moth/butterfly.

I think this is indeed Pteronus salicis - The Willow Sawfly. But i cannot find an image of the mature caterpillar.  | | |
