| | | Re: Global Warming Swindle? A TV programme (National Geographic channel?) I saw recently illustrated the history of the huge caldera in Yellowstone Park which erupted thousands of years ago and caused widespread devastation on the North American continent, as well as long-term changes in global weather patterns which compare with a so-called 'nuclear winter'.
If I remember correctly what the geologists and vulcanologists said on the programme, the pattern of rock formations in the area indicate an eruption cycle of 150,000 years, and the next one is about due. If that goes up again and emits vast amounts of sulphur dioxide, then it'll certainly affect the world's climate for many years, as it did previously, and could potentially wipe out most known life forms.

| | | Re: Global Warming Swindle? The colossal vulcanisity of the Deccan Traps at the close of the Cretaceous coincides rather nicely with the demise of the dinosaurs too. The global climatic shift immediately after this must've been enormous.

Marliza | I've read about this in one of Bill Bryson's books ('A Short History of nearly Everything' perhaps?). I remember feeling mildly perturbed about it!

| | | Re: Global Warming Swindle? Talking of volcanoes, La Palma, in the Canary Islands has a crack in the side caused by a massive landslip from the last recent eruption. If the volcano erupts and collapses into the sea then catastrophic tsunamis will occur as well as blotting out the sun Then it will be cool. Global warming is happening very quickly and humans are going to have big problems whatever is causing it. |

Well, now that Ban Ki Moon has pronounced on the UN conference conclusions, let's just hope that that appropriate action is taken and that politics, religion, financial gain, etc, all take a back seat and allow whatever can be done is done to lessen the effects of the inevitable.
Somehow I think it's going to be a bumpy ride, to say the least!

Matt | Link please? Is that the sane inaccuracies that Mr Gore put into his quackumentary? Which a court has MODESTLY said that it was not true (sensationalism) on 9 points. I think you'll find it's more like 29 points. |
