| | | Re: Wake up Walk out It's quite a good time , 1oc, I suppose. I think some planning needs to go into this, if the schools head's and bosses are shown the idea well in advance, they'd probably be for it, and support it. But for schoolchildren, students and employees to just suddenly do it without prior warning and planning might put their backs up....BUT MAYBE that is the original IDEA,....* I'll get my coat * |

x WAKE UP : WALK OUT - We walk out, our leaders wake up | BeThatChange | terrible idea - disruption of classes, workplaces etc and for no reason, as not remotely linked to the causes of climate change, and as to the tag line , the truth is more likely " a few of us walk out, we get detention, disciplined, fired etc, our leaders dont notice "
i'm all for awareness raising of the issue, but it really ought to be meaningful - like for example what about a walk to work (or school or whatever) day (as in rather than using carbon consming transport) - film that and put it on youtube

| | | Re: Wake up Walk out What form of "greater action" do the protest group organising this expect the UK government to realistically take, to meet the 42% emissions target? I don't think it says on their site. |

| | | Re: Wake up Walk out as it happened i was on leave that week , and as i was still in bed at 1300 I decided to stay where i was rather than either waking up or walking out, thus conserving energy by not turning on the lights or kettle

| | | Re: Wake up Walk out Hi eeyore,
What I don't understand is....Yes I agree we all cut down on fuel use etc. to help this 'emissions' problem, but surely much much larger amounts of emissions come from industry, haulage of goods, and aeroplanes. Are those things being addressed.....or will it be said that you can't do that cos it would affect employment..seems to me we go round in circles, smokey ones at that...Posie |

Industry is very small beer at least in the uk as most our heavy manufacturing industry (steel etc) is gone, and what plants are left are largely electrified. Haulage by road does account for some but nowhere near the ammount of private car use , and flights only account for 4%
