| | | This could help ! Recently did a job renovating offices for the NHS (never seems to be anything to do directly with treating patients that we do but thats another moan). As the building was still being used it was split in two;office staff at one end, manual labour at the other; the heating was the same for the whole building. My god it was hot.
We were opening windows, doors, removing clothes but were still red hot;it was stifling,so much so it made you feel ill!
The thing is that all the office staff were wearing just shirts and blouses (plus trousers etc).
If these office staff and all like them were made to wear jumpers the heating could be turned down and untold amounts of money and energy would be saved!!
I think I've just saved the world
Just make them get dressed when they go to work! |

| | | Re: This could help ! in a previous energy adviser role, i adjusted the firms heating controls so that the building was heated or cooled to the same temperature. a temp the staff had decided was comfortable. so then they learn that if they found it to cold they could put on clothes. The firm backed this up by bringing in a business dress code that insured people dressed appropriately for the type of office.
by letting every one control the heat around them in an open plan office you soon ended up with every other person with their heater on and the rest with their air con running with the window open to then let in warm air as they cool what they are letting out

| | | Re: This could help ! Funnily enough, my son's school has adopted a similar policy - wear a vest if you are cold!
Old fashioned good sense.
Many years ago my Dad (now sadly passed away) set up an Institute called the Institute of Domestic Heating and Environmental Engineers. (IDHE). He always poo-poohed the idea of global warming and climate change, yet his Institute was all about finding ways to efficiently heat/cool buildings and save money - which is pretty much the same as saving the planet!
He always had the thermostat set to cool and we wore jumpers! |

I don't expect your Pixie would be able to go out across the very muddy fields in the dark with me and growl at anyone that shouldn't be there, and (potentially) grab them by the throat if they tried to attack me, or WOULD she ! ?.. .................... talking about Flynn on my avatar..

| | | Re: This could help ! I am really with you on the more clothes thing except for one thing. I use a computer all the time at work, and if my hands get cold, they just seize up. I take a short break every hour, and shove my hands in my armpits, but it doesn't always work.

| | Re: This could help ! I don't suppose you could wear fingerless gloves. Also, if you wear wristbands, you know like the sportswear ones, that helps keep your hands warm.... You could also try a lamp on near your hands, especially with a low wattage infra red bulb, might help...I also know that there are battery driven heated clothing accessories for country and sports use, maybe you could adapt something, maybe get gloves and cut the fingers and thumb off and have the heating on the back of your hands...I do sympathise with you. Good luck....Posie. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
