Wissner-Gross has also calculated the CO2 emissions caused by individual use of the internet. His research indicates that viewing a simple web page generates about 0.02g of CO2 per second. This rises tenfold to about 0.2g of CO2 a second when viewing a website with complex images, animations or videos.

if we are going to worry about things like that perhaps we shoud use the above figures to work out the wab carbon footprint (0.02g per online user per second, current users online 200 = 4g of C02 per second at the moment or 240g per minuite - just under a kg every 4 minuites) quick everybody log off

I'd put us nearer the 0.2g. Luckily, I work as an energy consultant helping companies (including data centres) reduce CO2 output by thousands of tons a year...so I think we can borrow a bit of that for WAB's own carbon offsetting and let people logon again now

yeah but WAB is providing awareness and education about climate change and those are some of the factors that will help the planet in the future - so a few grams of CO2 aren't going to matter

So, that means that as WAB grows and to keep off-setting our emissions - you're going to have to work more hours
