One would think with all the money he has, he would have a fleet of electric cars but alas, he is just like the other prideful people we talked about before. | I knew a guy in England, had a doctorate in something or other, used to fly around the world bitching about people flying around the world.
They're the ones who make me want to vomit. The do as i say, not as i do, mob.
And i'm not sure electric cars are the answer. In the UK we don't have enough electric as it is, where are we going to find the power to start making all our road vehicles run on electric?
I think the electric car thing is just a money making gimmick for the car companies, they aren't green at all, the electric has to come from somewhere.
I have this theory...
Humans invented fire. And humans aren't going to stop burning until there's nothing left to burn, just to prove that we're so much better than other animals.

Nuclear, natural gas and cow methane sequestration. Add the wind, solar and tidal resources as they become effective. The worst thing we can do now is to limit our energy, destroy our economic power and delay the potential needed to find the ‘next energy’ source. Quote:

We worked our way to the top of the food chain because we ARE better than other animals. JMO.

| | | Re: Global warming: Reasons why it might not actually exist I doubt that it is. The reason that I say that is that the government has refused access to the programmes claiming that they are a 'state secret'.
This is probably why they were hacked!

| | | Re: Global warming: Reasons why it might not actually exist I suppose all this supposed 'cooling' is the reason why the hazel coppicing cycle is now 6 years instead of 7?
Likewise, because we're not getting warmer, that's why southern species are migrating northwards at a steady pace?
The south atlantic doesn't have hurricanes, because it's not warm enough: that was true until 2004. Rare South Atlantic Hurricane Hits Brazil
Of course all those retreating glaciers are due to the voracious appetite of alpine rodents who eat the ice when it's too hot for them in summer.
There are plenty of other examples in the natural world - but I'm sure deskbound folks with computers will find evidence to refute them, backed up with quotes and sources - and if it's on the Internet, it's got to be true!
Nature doesn't lie and it doesn't read newspapers. Get out there and see for yourself - the climate is changing, here and lots of other places are experiencing disruptions in otherwise meta-stable weather systems. Some of this disruption will show up as cold years interspersed with warm ones, changes in precipitation patterns, etc...
Paradoxically, the overall effect is warming but that might well lead to these parts getting colder due to a slowing in the North Atlantic Drift (Gulf Stream). This is driven by cooling of salt water off eastern Greenland. The water freezes on the surface to 'pancake ice' but the ice contains no salt. The resulting supercooled, highly saline water below it then sinks to the bottom of the ocean and this sinking is what drives a large portion of the world's ocean currents - especially the North Atlantic Drift, which brings heat from the tropics to Europe.
The ice formation has dropped due to increased temperatures and the salinity of the seawater has also fallen due to large amounts of meltwater from the Greenland Ice Sheet. This is, according to reliable measurements, weakening the North Atlantic Drift. Europe might get colder.
We can debate the causes of climate change but whatever the cause, denying that it's happening is IMAO an expression of an otherwise recessive ostrich gene.
H L Mencken said it: it is in the nature of human beings to embrace what is obviously false but comforting and reject what is true but unpleasant.
Any fool can tell you that a linear system of resource usage in a finite environment is basically unsustainable. We're a successful species that, like any other successful species in nature, is reaching the limits of our biotope or living space.

| | | Re: Global warming: Reasons why it might not actually exist I've been around for some years now RnF and I have no need for a 'climatologist' to tell me that the climate has warmed in that period. But please do not make the mistake of assuming that GW HAS to mean Man Made GW.

| | | Re: Global warming: Reasons why it might not actually exist I would have thought that common knowledge of CO2 as a greenhouse gas and its increasing quantities in our atmosphere would give anyone a good kick up the backside trying do deny global warming. This is grass roots science, its not LHC particle detection. No need to realise that greenland is thawing at ever accelerated rates, icesheets, permafrost are disappearing. Our oceans are absorbing much of this, a secret pollution that is changing state of its biodiversity. Take a look at this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8376286.stm
So what if there are some people not giving facts entirely so clean cut. We need reaction to dangers of sloppy, lazy human behaviour on NOT acting, not endless political like debates on science fracture of fact. Its real, deal with it. Grow up and be responsible.
